Gavel Club

The Gavel Club in a school is a student-led organization that focuses on developing public speaking, leadership, and communication skills. It is inspired by Toastmasters International, which is well known worldwide for helping individuals become confident speakers and effective leaders. In the Gavel Club, students are given a supportive environment where they can practice speaking in front of an audience. Members participate in structured meetings that include prepared speeches, impromptu speaking sessions (often called “table topics”), and constructive evaluations. These activities help students overcome stage fright, improve their confidence, and learn how to express their ideas clearly and effectively. The club also emphasizes leadership development. Members take on different roles during meetings, such as chairperson, timekeeper, or evaluator, which helps them build organizational and teamwork skills. Through these roles, students learn responsibility, time management, and how to guide others. In addition, the Gavel Club encourages critical thinking and active listening. By giving and receiving feedback, students learn how to improve their communication skills while respecting the opinions of others. The club often organizes speech competitions, debates, and special events that make learning both fun and engaging.
