COLLEGE RULES AND REGULATIONS

In any civilized community, it is necessary and essential to have rules and regulations, which members of the community pay regard to. St Mark’s College Namagoma being a community with people of different social background, it operates in strict observance of set rules. As a student, the moment you are admitted to the college, the following are the rules that apply. Violation of any rule or rules and regulations may result into immediate suspension or dismissal from college or any other form of punishment as deemed necessary by the Headmaster and/or the College Disciplinary Committee.

1. Alcohol, drugs and smoking are strictly forbidden and are punishable by instant expulsion from the college.

2. Bullying, teasing, fighting, and stealing of any nature are strictly forbidden and punishable by expulsion.

3. Cheating of any nature in examinations is punishable by instant demotion, be it in term I, II, III

4. Insolence of any nature to the college Administration, members of the teaching staff is strictly forbidden and punishable by expulsion. Staff quarters are strictly out of bounds to students except in case of emergency. The staff-room is out of bounds to students. Permission should be sought to gain access to the staffroom.

5. Vandalism and malicious damage of college property, i.e. writing on desks, walls of classrooms and toilets, breaking desks windowpanes etc is highly punishable. Parents of involved students will be asked to pay for the damage.

6. Mobile phones, cameras, radios, earrings, necklaces, nail vanish, rings, makeup, perfumes, bangles, caps, hats are not allowed. Possession of the same is punishable by confiscation for good and may tantamount to expulsion. Students’ hair should be kept at 1/2an inch length; French cuts, backbush and shaolin are forbidden.

7. No student should miss class. In case of sickness, permission should be obtained from the Administration. Leaving the college campus without written permission is self-dismissal from the college.

8. Students are not allowed in the Kitchen. All forms of private cooking are not allowed at college. Cooking facilities i.e. stoves, coils, saucepans etc found with students will always be confiscated and may lead to instant expulsion.

9. Students will clean the classes, compound, toilets, and dormitories. Dodging of the same may lead to heavy punishment

10. Students must not wear unauthorized jackets, cardigans sweaters, scarfs etc. The punishment is confiscation for good.

11. All students must report at college on the first day of the term not later than 6.00p.m, fully dressed in college uniform. Parents/Guardians must accompany students that do not report on the first day. A warden or matron will check the students. Radio, musical instrument of any kind and cameras must not be brought to college.

12. All students going out for games and sports, seminars etc, must be in full uniform and must carry with them their identity cards for security purposes. Shouting and nasty singing is not allowed on the truck.

13. All societies/clubs shall have a patron who should be a member of the teaching staff. NB: All societies/clubs shall have to register with the Headmaster’s office. Society leaders must communicate with outside bodies or personalities through their patron. All correspondences from societies to other schools MUST be addressed through the Headmaster of this college to the Headmaster of the specific school concerned and must be countersigned by the Patron of the society. Such letters MUST be in triplicate. No society should make a trip without the patron. However, the patron may request any member of the Academic Staff to accompany the group on his / her behalf.

14. All students should purchase their requirements only from the college canteen during break time, lunchtime and after classes.

15. English language is the only medium of communication allowed at college. Vernacular speaking is tantamount to sectarianism in this multilingual society and is highly punishable.

16. All day students must be dressed in full college uniform, walk and talk in an organized and orderly manner from and on the way home.

17. Girl-Boy relationship associated with immorality is punishable by expulsion. Rumor mongering and backbiting is highly prohibited. Use of obscene and abusive language is strictly condemned.

18. Visitation Days will always be Communicated to the Parents/Guardians and will be Once a term. Parents/Guardians are free to bring food to students on production of a visitor’s card. Parents/Guardians and relatives are not allowed to visit students during school time.

19. Prep time is mandatory for every boarder. Breach of this may lead to Expulsion. Students must do their preps in the appropriate rooms. Lights out must be observed by every boarder, this will always be at 11.00 p.m. Dormitories shall be out of bounds for all students during class time and prep time. NB: Sick students shall have to get a bed rest from the nurse approved by the College Administration (Warden, Senior lady, Headmaster).

20. Parents must see the College Administration before talking to their sons/daughters. Students found talking to their parents/guardians/relatives without prior permission will be sent home with their visitors.

21. Shouting and any form of noise, which may disturb the freedom of others, is forbidden, more especially the eve of the closing day of the term. This may carry a heavy punishment.

22. Once a student reports, it means that together with the parent they have entered into a contract with the college to abide by the college rules and regulations. Parents have a responsibility to make sure that their children abide by rules.

23. All Boarders must be fully dressed in weekend/out of class uniform whenever it is weekend or after classes. No any other casual wear of any sort is allowed at College.

It is important to note that a breach of common sense is a breach of the rules. These rules and regulations can be changed to take into account new situations and developments.
